Co-founder of Makerbot, Bre Pettis acquires milling machine firm Other Machine

Former CEO and co-founder of 3D printing business Makerbot, Bre Pettis has bought a non 3D printing related business – the CNC milling system enterprise Other Machine.

American enterprise, Other Machine operates from Berkeley and is the designer of the Othermill Pro desktop milling system. Bre Pettis at this time serves as CEO and founder of Bre & Co, set up in 2016, the enterprise creates bespoke 3D printed presents and heirlooms.

Othermill Pro

Other Machine presented its Othermill product line on Kickstarter with the original machine getting over $311,000 back in 2013. The most recent system, the Othermill Pro, at this point is sold for $3,199.

Making use of its 3-axis toolhead, the machine has the potential to mill Printed Circuit Boards and carve 3D shapes. The most important selling feature of the equipment is its ability to be incorporated in an office setup. The Othermill Pro is small enough to fit on a desktop, quiet enough to feature in a social workplace and can facilitate production processes by creating in-house instead of outsourcing.

Combined with hardware equipment, the Berkeley firm has also produced its own Otherplan software for the CNC machines. Bre Pettis declares he is “thrilled” to invest in Other Machine as,

The Othermill Pro is surely an extraordinary milling machine which is so accurate that electrical engineers can mill Printed Circuit Boards with 6 mil traces and build Printed Circuit Boards faster than a Printed Circuit Board service. I’m energized to be back in the arena boosting leaders.

Printed Circuit Boards and electronics

CEO of Other Machine, Dr. Danielle Applestone explains, “I sit up for building on our commitment of accessible prototyping machines for expert engineers and empowering a generation of students using the Othermill Pro to learn and make their thoughts possible.”

Applestone also said she will go forward in her role as CEO and is “excited to get Bre’s support.”
