Co-founder of Makerbot, Bre Pettis buys milling machine firm Other Machine

Ex-CEO and co-founder of 3D printing company Makerbot, Bre Pettis has bought a non 3D printing relevant business – the CNC milling system company Other Machine.

American company, Other Machine operates from Berkeley and is the maker of the Othermill Pro desktop milling system. Bre Pettis at this point works as CEO and founder of Bre & Co, started in 2016, the company creates bespoke 3D printed gifts and heirlooms.

Othermill Pro

Other Machine launched its Othermill series on Kickstarter with the original machine raising over $311,000 back in 2013. The latest system, the Othermill Pro, at the moment is sold for $3,199.

With the help of its 3-axis toolhead, the machine has the ability to mill Circuit Boards and carve 3D shapes. The primary feature of the equipment is its ability to be incorporated in an office setup. The Othermill Pro is small enough to fit on a worktable, peaceful enough to feature in a community working place and can hasten production processes by creating in-house other than outsourcing.

Aside from hardware equipment, the Berkeley firm has also designed its unique Otherplan software for the CNC machines. Bre Pettis states he is “thrilled” to purchase Other Machine as,

The Othermill Pro is an extraordinary milling machine that’s so accurate that electrical engineers has the capability to mill Circuit Boards with 6 mil traces and develop Circuit Boards faster than a Circuit Board service. I’m enthusiastic to return in the arena helping innovators.

Circuit Boards and electronics

CEO of Other Machine, Dr. Danielle Applestone explains, “I anticipate building on our commitment of accessible prototyping machines for professional engineers and empowering a number of of students who benefit from the Othermill Pro to learn and make their ideas be realized.”

Applestone furthermore mentioned she will keep going in her position as CEO and is “delighted to get Bre’s assistance.”
