Co-founder of Makerbot, Bre Pettis buys milling machine firm Other Machine

Ex-CEO and co-founder of 3D printing company Makerbot, Bre Pettis has purchased a non 3D printing relevant business – the CNC milling equipment company Other Machine.

Californian company, Other Machine operates from Berkeley and is the creator of the Othermill Pro desktop milling equipment. Bre Pettis now serves as CEO and founding father of Bre & Co, established in the year 2016, the company creates bespoke 3D printed presents and heirlooms.

Othermill Pro

Other Machine made available its Othermill series on Kickstarter with the original machine getting in excess of $311,000 back in 2013. The most up-to-date equipment, the Othermill Pro, at this time sells for $3,199.

Making use of its 3-axis toolhead, the machine has the potential to mill Printed Circuit Boards and carve 3D shapes. The chief feature of the machine is its ability to be incorporated in an office setup. The Othermill Pro is sufficiently little to fit on a desktop, tranquil enough to feature in a communal working place and can accelerate production processes by creating in-house other than contracting out.

Along with hardware machines, the Berkeley firm furthermore has produced its unique Otherplan software for the CNC machines. Bre Pettis says he is “thrilled” to buy Other Machine as,

The Othermill Pro is an amazing milling machine that is so exact that electrical engineers has the capability to mill Printed Circuit Boards with 6 mil traces and develop Printed Circuit Boards quicker than a Printed Circuit Board service. I’m delighted to return in the arena supporting forerunners.

CEO of Other Machine, Dr. Danielle Applestone clarifies, “I anticipate building on our commitment of accessible prototyping machines for specialist engineers and empowering a generation of students using the Othermill Pro to learn and make their thoughts a real possibility.”

Applestone in addition claimed she will keep going in her position as CEO and is “thrilled to get Bre’s support.”
