Co-founder of Makerbot, Bre Pettis purchases milling machine firm Other Machine
Ex-CEO and co-founder of 3D printing business Makerbot, Bre Pettis has acquired a non 3D printing related company – the CNC milling equipment firm Other Machine.
American firm, Other Machine operates from Berkeley and is the designer of the Othermill Pro desktop milling equipment. Bre Pettis now works as CEO and founding father of Bre & Co, established in the year 2016, the firm creates customized 3D printed presents and heirlooms.
Other Machine made available its Othermill products on Kickstarter with the original machine raising in excess of $311,000 back in 2013. The most up-to-date equipment, the Othermill Pro, presently retails for $3,199.
With the help of its 3-axis toolhead, the machine has the potential to mill PWBs and carve 3D shapes. The main selling point of the system is its ability to be incorporated in an office setup. The Othermill Pro is sufficiently small enough to fit on a worktable, silent enough to feature in a social working place and can increase the speed of production processes by creating in-house instead of outsourcing.
In combination with hardware systems, the Berkeley firm has also designed its very own Otherplan software for the CNC machines. Bre Pettis states he is “thrilled” to buy Other Machine as,
The Othermill Pro is an wonderful milling machine that’s so exact that electrical engineers can easily mill PWBs with 6 mil traces and develop PWBs more rapidly than a PWB service. I’m energized to return in the arena boosting forerunners.
PWBs and electronic products
CEO of Other Machine, Dr. Danielle Applestone makes clear, “I look ahead to building on our commitment of accessible prototyping machines for expert engineers and empowering a generation of students who benefit from the Othermill Pro to learn and make their thoughts possible.”
Applestone furthermore explained she is going to carry on in her role as CEO and is “delighted to get Bre’s assistance.”
