Nordic Semiconductor nRF52840 Preview Development Kit (nRF52840-PDK) is a versatile, single-board development tool for Bluetooth® 5, Bluetooth low energy, ANT, 802.15.4m, and 2.4GHz proprietary applications using the nRF52840 SoC (System on Chip). Hardware-compatible with the Arduino Uno Revision 3 standard, the nRF52840-PDK enables designers to use 3rd-party shields that conform to this standard.
Pratyush Dave from Nordic Semiconductor demonstrates new capabilities with Bluetooth 5 on the latest Nordic Bluetooth device, nRF52840. This device supports all the new Bluetooth 5 features, and in the demo both the long range and the high throughput modes are tested. Also demonstrated is the Nordic Power Profiler Kit, used to measure real-time current consumption in embedded solutions during software development.
Nordic has recently contributed support for the 2Mbit/s PHY, part of the Bluetooth 5.0 specification, to the Zephyr Project RTOS.
The video below shows how to configure, build and test GATT data throughput on a nRF52840 SoC running Zephyr RTOS.
The throughput measured may vary depending on the environment, but the maximum throughput observed in this video is around 1398 Kbps.

Nordic Semiconductor demonstrating the nRF52 Series SoC support for Bluetooth 5 high throughput mode (2Mbps). Here Nordic demonstrates the use of the new 2Mbps feature of Bluetooth 5 with the new Galaxy S8 smartphone from Samsung which has Bluetooth 5 support. The demo transfers images across a 2Mbps Bluetooth connection and demonstrates both hi-res stills capture and transfer and lower res moving picture transfer using a video camera module together with the nRF52840 PDK.
